Weitec wins Venture on the Road Alicante

After stopping in Oviedo, Cartagena, Bilbao, Malaga and Valladolid, Alicante was the sixth and last stop of this roadshow, prior to the grand finale in Madrid where the winning startup of the sixth edition of Venture on the Road will be unveiled. In 2023, the roadshow, organised by BStartup by Banco Sabadell, SeedRocket and Wayra, Telefonica’s open innovation initiative, joined also by Google for Startups as partner, continues to pursue the same goals: to seek the best opportunities available in each region and to offer early-stage startups a chance to present their projects to investors and build a network of high-quality contacts.

The event held on Thursday, 18 May at the offices of the Digital District of the Valencian Community in Avda. Perfecto Palacio de la Fuente showcased the experience and knowledge of the local ecosystem thanks to the collaboration of local partners such as AlicanTec, the University of Alicante Science Park and the Digital District of the Valencian Community.

The four finalists were:

  • Avamed Synergy: a solution for the integration of digital tools that enables anticipating tumour growth and its classification, eliminating complications during complex surgery.
  • G·Beasts: an app that enables the digitalisation of the professional e-sports coach/analyst so that players can receive personalised recommendations based on their playing style.
  • Stenfit: a SAAS platform that was born with the intention of connecting trainers with their users and of providing them with a tool to professionalise and centralise all their services.
  • Weitec: a solutions development company that enables monitoring small and medium-size agricultural businesses, getting them closer to innovation and digital transformation.

The event in Alicante also featured the participation of Felipe Polo, founder of GuideSmiths and TeamHackers, SeedRocket mentor and startup investor, who delivered a presentation to the entrepreneurs entitled: “How to mess up your startup when it’s at its most successful”, where he described how it is also possible to die of success and how he avoided this and what he learned. He also explained why he had to fire an IBEX 35 customer in its first week to be able to grow.

Weitec, the winning startup of Venture on the Road in Alicante, is guaranteed a spot in the national final, which will take place on 13 June in Madrid, alongside the winning projects from other cities. It will also form part of the Google Cloud digital natives programme, with up to 10,000 dollars in credit valid for 9 months and technical follow-up with Google Cloud engineers, in addition to enjoying priority access to advanced training in the Google Cloud Platform training programmes.

The winning proposal of the national final of the 6th edition of Venture on the Road will be awarded a package of support from all the partners, including specialist consulting in finance or marketing valued at 3,000 euros provided by BStartup, participation as a guest project in the SeedRocket Entrepreneurs Campus, and space in the Wayra offices for 6-12 months, as well as access to events, training sessions, workshops and contacts.

Venture on the Road ended in Alicante its roadshow which visited the main autonomous communities to find talent and promising startups at regional level outside Madrid and Barcelona, the two leading tech hubs in Spain. The event has already taken place in Oviedo, Cartagena, Bilbao, Malaga, Valladolid and Alicante.
