Present and Future<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The day closed with the Meet Young VC gathering, titled &#8220;<em>How much has AI really changed us<\/em>&#8220;, with\u00a0<strong>Lluis Llorens<\/strong>\u00a0from Plug and Play,\u00a0<strong>Sandra Castells<\/strong>\u00a0from Lanai Ventures,\u00a0<strong>Trist\u00e1n Conde<\/strong>\u00a0from Abac Nest Ventures,<strong>Arnau Bosch<\/strong>\u00a0from Soundstorming,\u00a0<strong>Anna Niub\u00f3<\/strong>\u00a0from Sabadell Venture Capital\u00a0<strong>and Arnau Segura<\/strong>\u00a0from BStartup Banco Sabadell.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong><u>Tuesday, 3 March<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fHO5HgabWOE?si=gEN2W7cmK_Qqug_J\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>The second day featured\u00a0<strong>five portfolio startups<\/strong>\u00a0from the BStartupHealth area at the stand:\u00a0<strong>ADmit Therapeutics<\/strong>, specialised in early detection of Alzheimer&#8217;s;\u00a0<strong>Gate2Brain<\/strong>, with solutions for drug delivery to the central nervous system;\u00a0<strong>TimeIsBrain<\/strong>, which monitors brain electrical activity to predict patient recovery after a stroke;\u00a0<strong>Oniria Therapeutics<\/strong>, with its research programme on sleep disorders; and\u00a0<strong>Miramoon Pharma<\/strong>, focused on developing therapies for rare diseases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ACCI\u00d3 organised a startup meeting<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/strong>\u00a0presented the &#8220;<em>Pitch Session: Andalusian Talent in the Spotlight<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0<strong>Barcelona Health Hub<\/strong>\u00a0moderated the panel &#8220;<em>The digital revolution in health: from research to the patient<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0<strong>CEEI Asturias<\/strong>\u00a0organised &#8220;<em>Asturias Talent Paradise<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0<strong>101 Area<\/strong>\u00a0held its &#8220;<em>Demo Day Acceleration Program<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0<strong>Port de Barcelona<\/strong>\u00a0presented the session &#8220;<em>Driving innovation and sustainability at the Port of Barcelona<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0<strong>SeedRocket<\/strong>\u00a0organised the talk &#8220;<em>From zero to exit: the complete startup journey<\/em>&#8220;, with\u00a0<strong>Laura Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>\u00a0from The Hotels Network.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Agora Stage: &#8220;Is SaaS dead or is it just mutating?&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pfY8Hal_yZQ?si=PFHU598lljumBVN_\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>The panel brought together\u00a0<strong>Luis Garay<\/strong>\u00a0from Samaipata,\u00a0<strong>Laura Urquizu<\/strong>\u00a0from RedPoints\u00a0<strong>and Toni Berga<\/strong>from Embat,\u00a0<strong>with Sergio P\u00e9rez<\/strong>\u00a0from Sabadell Venture Capital as moderador.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All three speakers agreed that\u00a0<strong>SaaS is not dead<\/strong>, but rather\u00a0<strong>it is undergoing a transformation<\/strong>\u00a0driven by artificial intelligence. Laura Urquizu noted that\u00a0<strong>the companies that disappear are those that fail to adapt<\/strong>and identified three\u00a0<strong>competitive differentiation elements<\/strong>\u00a0for vertical SaaS:\u00a0<strong>el brand moat, el data moat y el distribution moat<\/strong>. Toni Berga identified\u00a0<strong>pressure on development costs<\/strong>\u00a0as the main factor that will redefine the sector&#8217;s pricing. Luis Garay argued that the reduction in the cost of building software puts pressure on margins, but that\u00a0<strong>reliability, security and maintenance costs continue to favour specialised providers<\/strong>over in-house development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Banco Sabadell Stage: &#8220;Building the next wave of AI-native companies&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XSs_PMNs6Ms?si=ZSGtx_YZmOz3dgyK\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>The panel brought together\u00a0<strong>Elisenda Bou<\/strong>\u00a0from Cala,\u00a0<strong>Alexander Martynau<\/strong>\u00a0from NVIDIA Startup Ecosystem\u00a0<strong>and Eduardo Ordax Duque<\/strong>\u00a0from AWS,\u00a0<strong>with Laurent Arens<\/strong>\u00a0from BStartup Banco Sabadell as moderator.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elisenda Bou defined\u00a0<strong>AI-native companies<\/strong>\u00a0as those that\u00a0<strong>build their products through agents and adopt an agentic-first organisational culture<\/strong>\u00a0across all their areas. She identified\u00a0<strong>the main technical challenge as the leap from prototype to production<\/strong>: getting an agent to work at 95% is achievable, but the remaining 5% requires curated and reliable data. &#8220;<em>The internet was not built for agents<\/em>&#8220;, she noted, placing there the raison d&#8217;\u00eatre of\u00a0<strong>Cala: a curated data infrastructure that enables agents to operate in real production<\/strong>. She added that the speed of AI adoption has created a new dynamic in which large companies hire startups to improve their internal workflows.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Martynau noted that the\u00a0<strong>startups that scale successfully<\/strong>\u00a0share two characteristics:\u00a0<strong>they build for the global market from the start, and their founders show high resilience<\/strong>. &#8220;<em>The most successful AI-native startups build for the world, not for their region, not even for Europe<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eduardo Ordax Duque highlighted that\u00a0<strong>organisations that had previously invested in their data strategy are the ones that adopt AI most easily<\/strong>. He warned that adopting AI cannot be an end in itself: &#8220;<em>It&#8217;s not about being AI-first. AI is simply a journey, and you need to enjoy the journey and learn from it<\/em>&#8220;. Participants included\u00a0<strong>Fernando Casado<\/strong>, Co-Founder and General Partner\u00a0of Inclimo,\u00a0<strong>Diego D\u00edaz Pilas<\/strong>,\u00a0Global Head of Ventures &amp; New Technologies at Iberdrola,\u00a0<strong>and Jan Lozek\u00a0Founder<\/strong>, CEO and Managing Partner of\u00a0Energy Ventures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jan Lozek identified the\u00a0<strong>founding team<\/strong>\u00a0as\u00a0<strong>the most decisive factor in climate tech investment<\/strong>, above and beyond the technology: &#8220;<em>The best investments in our portfolio have been driven by the right founders: resilient, motivating, committed. It&#8217;s not about the technology or the energy transition first: it&#8217;s about having people with passion and ambition<\/em>&#8220;. He also underlined the\u00a0<strong>need for collaboration between startups, corporations and investors<\/strong>: &#8220;<em>The energy system needs to operate 24\/7, and to innovate within it you have to work together<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Diego D\u00edaz Pilas highlighted\u00a0<strong>the electrification of the economy as the most direct path to decarbonisation<\/strong>: &#8220;<em>Electricity currently represents only a quarter of the total energy mix. The great challenge now is to grow that share from 25% to 30%, 35%, 40%. If we achieve that, we will be effectively decarbonising the economy, because we are already decarbonising electricity<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Casado addressed the\u00a0<strong>relationship between corporate pilots and scalability<\/strong>: &#8220;<em>To make good innovation work, you have to reduce the fear of failure. Pilots that drag on for 6, 9, or 12 months just so a startup can use a corporation&#8217;s logo in their pitch don&#8217;t help anyone. Failing faster is, without a doubt, the best path to scaling faster<\/em>&#8220;.
