BStartup Health’s 2nd Edition now accepting applications

Since BStartup’s inception in 2013, Banco Sabadell has worked to support the companies of the future, providing banking advice and services to startups. As a result of this philosophy of entrepreneurial support, BStartup launched the health programme BStartup Health last year. After the success achieved in its first iteration, the application process is now open for its 2nd Edition, which ends on 30 September 2019.

Focused on supporting health sector companies with high-growth potential and scalable and innovative business models, the first edition of BStartup Health received guidance from a scientific committee made up of Drs Montserrat Vendrell, Damià Tormo and Carlos Gallardo. This committee will also participate in the second edition, enlisting the help of Dr Clara Campàs as well.

After reviewing all the proposals, the three startups selected in the first edition were the following:

  • Able Human Motion: developers of a lightweight, easy-to-use and affordable exoskeleton that enables people with spinal cord injuries to walk again.
  • ADmit Therapeutics: developers of a test for early detection of Alzheimer’s.
  • CreatSens: their medical device enables the quick, easy and low-cost diagnosis and control of kidney diseases.

The 2nd edition of BStartup Health provides investment to three health sector startups for an amount of €100,000 in exchange for an equity stake. BStartup also offers investees mentoring from the scientific committee, as well as:

  • strategic business advice;
  • definition of the roadmap;
  • advice on fundraising strategy;
  • networking opportunities with some of the most relevant investors for their stage and activity; and
  • preparation of the documents needed for an investment round: business plan, investor’s deck and one-page summary.

The investment criteria for BStartup Health’s new iteration are as follows:

  • Sectors: EHealth, Medical Devices, Diagnosis, Therapeutics & Drugs.
  • Stage: pre-seed, seed or early-stage or teams with innovative projects.
  • Teams: projects led by entrepreneurs with high commitment, global ambition, sector experience and team-building spirit.
  • Spanish enterprises incorporated or in the process of being incorporated with international vision.
  • Differentiated and innovative value proposition that aims to solve a market need.
  • Aimed at a broad, global and growing market.

Banco Sabadell’s commitment to health sector investment is also strengthened with the recent creation of the Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Fund, which makes early-stage investments in the Biotech, Medtech, Digital Health and Innovative Services fields. Furthermore, Banco Sabadell Group consolidated its position as a benchmark investor in Ysios Biofund II Innvierte and with the additional resource allocation to make direct joint investments with this fund in Spain.

It is worth noting that Banco Sabadell Foundation has been awarding its Biomedical Research Award since 2006 in order to recognise young researchers with outstanding track records in the fields of biomedicine and health sciences who stand out in their respective specialities for their ability to innovate.

If you believe your startup meets the investment criteria, fill in this form to apply for BStartup Health’s 2nd Edition so that we can analyse your proposal. You have until 30 September.
